astrobro asked: "What if I kept belittling you, and you asked me to stop". That's the thing, though. Man does not go out of his way to belittle you, you've just deluded yourself into believing that. The fact is, men and women have advantages and disadvantages to their respective gender. It's just currently righteous to stand up for feminism, and that's why you all do it. Women are not repressed in any way, there are bigger things to worry about in the world.
I love the fact that everyone who sends me things like this are guys. I’m sure you’re an expert on what it feels like to be a woman. You should write a book, even!
Man DOES go out of his way to belittle us. Not every man, certainly, but certainly more than women belittle men. Here’s how:
If women are not repressed in any way, why is it that OUR reproductive rights - what we can and cannot do with our bodies - are a political issue debated widely by men? If it’s a women’s issue, shouldn’t it be decided by women? Why was an all-male panel appointed recently to even discuss this? Why were we silenced?
If women are not repressed in any way, why are we constantly used as decoration and ornament in commercials, ads, music videos, and other types of media? Women are objectified and reduced all the time, whereas men are not - at least not nearly as frequently.
If women are not repressed, why is it that although women make up the predominant portion of college graduates, we are still severely under-represented in professional jobs? Statistically speaking, a woman with the same or better qualifications than a man still has a lower chance of being hired to do the same job, especially in higher-paying jobs.
If women are not repressed, why is it that 1 in 6 women will be the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime, whereas for a man the number is 1 in 33? These numbers account for rapes that occur in correctional institutions, and even though some would try to make prison rape a purely male issue, women are also raped in prison by other women using objects.
If women are not repressed, why is it that 97% of rapists walk free, and women who go to the police after an assault are asked what they were wearing, if they were drinking, and how promiscuous they are? “She was asking for it” is never an excuse to rape someone, because no. She WASN’T asking for it. Wearing a short skirt is not an invitation to rape, and yet this victim-blaming mentality is prevalent in society. Until the 50s, I believe, a woman could not even legally press charges against her husband if he raped her, because people believed that rape between husband and wife was a non-issue.
If women are not repressed, why is it that we bring these issues up all the time, numerous studies have been performed to prove the existence of these inequalities, and yet the predominant feedback we hear from men when we mention them is “You’re over-reacting; there is no inequality. You’re wrong.” Look at the facts, astrobro. YOU’RE wrong.
